چکیده

Employing a local moment approach to the periodic Anderson model within the framework of dynamical mean-field theory, direct comparison is made between theory and experiment for the d.c. transport and optical conductivities of paramagnetic heavy fermion and intermediate valence metals. Four materials, exhibiting a diverse range of behaviour in their transport/optics, are analysed in detail: CeB6, Y bAl3, CeAl3 and CeCoIn5. Good agreement between theory and experiment is in general found, even quantitatively, and a mutually consistent picture of transport and optics results. PACS numbers: 71.27.+a Strongly correlated electron systems; heavy fermions 75.20.Hr Local moment in compounds and alloys; Kondo effect, valence fluctuations, heavy fermions Submitted to: J. These lectures give an overview of the ongoing application of effective field theory (EFT) and renormalization group (RG) concepts and methods to density functional theory (DFT), with special emphasis on the nuclear many-body problem. Many of the topics covered are still in their infancy, so rather than a complete review these lectures aim to provide an introduction to the developing literature...

1 M ay 2 00 7 Fredholm determinants and the statistics of charge transport

Using operator algebraic methods we show that the moment generating function of charge transport in a system with infinitely many non-interacting Fermions is given by a determinant of a certain operator in the one-particle Hilbert space. The formula is equivalent to a formula of Levitov in the finite dimensional case and may be viewed as its regularized form in general. Our result embodies two ...

Using the forward time projection chambers of the STAR experiment at the Brookhaven Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider we measure the centrality dependent Λ and ¯ Λ yields and the inverse slope parameters in d+Au collisions at forward and backward rapidities y = ±2.75. The contributions of different processes to stopping and baryon transport are probed exploiting the inherent asymmetry of the d+Au...
